Maya Python script - Proxy Mesh from Joints
This tool creates a proxy mesh from selected joints. You can choose how many edges you want for this mesh, adjust its measurements to better fit your model, and have a quick skin pass on your proxy mesh that can later be transferred to your high-poly model.
This tool comes with two skin weight modes, "FK chain" and "Ribbon-like" setup. You can switch between them to find what works best for your setup. It also includes an option to smooth weights of selected joints and iterate 'x' times through them, making smooth weights MUCH easier and faster (this feature should definitely be native in Maya). This is another time-saving tool that can be used in several situations and with different types of assets.
This tool works in Maya 2018 to Maya 2023 (Python 2.7 & Python 3)
You'll get a .txt file, just copy the text into your maya python script editor and run it.
